Sinarskaja[edit]

This is the original name of settlement during the time of Imperial Russia. Even in official Railway timebables it appeared with this name.

This makes me wonder how well today´s Russians really know the history of their own country. The name Kamensk Uralski (Stony Ural) is the production of the Soviet era.

Kamensk-Uralsky is a very big area city. From foundation it included villages Bainy, Volkovo, Krasnaya Gorka and many others. Sinarskaja was (and is) a first railway station near Kamensk. I guess it was named after river Sinara, situated to the south of Kamensk. Now, when city is big, this station gave a name to whole region in the city and to the tubes plant. You can find "prints" villages in other names in city: Krasnogorsky region, Baynovskiy bridge, Volkovskoe storage pond. You should not understand Kamensk Uralski simply as Stony Ural. "Kamensk" is due to River Kamenka - the main energy source of former foundry. "Uralski" is in order to distinguish it from other "Kamensks" of Russia as situated at Ural. River Kamenka (also called Zhelezyanka which can be translated as Iron) was named so because of many big limestone cliffs on its banks--DenWiki (talk) 12:11, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
