This is the Prudential Assurance Building at 138 - 142 Holborn.
It was built for Prudential PLC, when they moved to Holborn Bars in 1879. The building was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, and is built of terracotta manufactured by Gibbs and Canning Limited.
It is a Grade II* listed building. The north side of the road is actually in Camden Town / Camden and no longer the City of London.
It was built in stages from 1885 to 1901. It is in Gothic Revival style.
